Pucca - Snow Ninjas

Snow Ninjas was based on a pitch that appeared in the original Pucca television show story bible. Only a few lines long, the premise was considered to be broken and unworkable. At the time, however, the broadcaster was turning down nearly every pitch that crossed their desk. Operating on the assumption that all the episode ideas in the story bible were already, by default, broadcaster approved, the producers asked Shane to fix Snow Ninjas and write it as his next episode. The draft presented here is a couple of generations removed from what was ultimately shot, and contains some character moments that were cut from later versions – including Garu's pathetic attempt at a snowman, meant to illustrate how the serious-minded ninja boy never really learned how to play.

Pucca

Treasure of the Comfy Sofa had a convoluted journey to the screen. It started out as a pitch for a whole other show before being adapted as a vehicle for Pucca. The original concept for the story was more of a parody of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and included a third treasure hunter vying for the fortune hidden in the bowels of the anthropomorphic sofa (who, additionally, had a more complex motivation for accumulating all that spare change). As with most projects that go through many stages of development, the story became more streamlined through several drafts, and a lot of material was cut or altered before it arrived at the final script that went on to be nominated for best writing in an animated production at the Elan Awards. The script presented here is something of a hybrid version of the last couple of drafts.
